General objective
Fostering the development of Banat tourism industry in order to achieve closer economic and social integration of the cross border region.
Specific objective
Achieving a 5% increase in the economic indicators that are related to Banat tourism, by the end of 2008, as a result of promoting the best 22 tourism products from Serbian and Romanian Banat.
Location
The project will be carried out in six Serbian and Romanian districts (Timis, Caras-Severin, Mehedinti, Northern Banat, Central Banat and Southern Banat) covering an area of 52 towns and municipalities.
Target groups
The project targets local public administration, mass-media as well as tourism stakeholders from Banat (accommodation establishments, travel agencies, tourist info centers etc.)
Activities
· Conducting a research for identifying the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats of Banat tourism industry
· Setting up/developing two Tourist Info Centers (in Pancevo and Timisoara) and four Tourist Info Points (in Zrenjanin, Kanjiza, Drobeta Turnu Severin, Resita)
· Organizing the workshop “How to operate a Tourist Info Center/Point?”
· Organizing a PR school for Tourist Info Center managers, tourism stakeholders, PR managers from local public administration.
· Drawing up a database with the main tourism stakeholders in the region, available both in printed and online version
· Organizing 2 major PR campaigns: “Promoting the culture of hospitality in Bana“Mobilization of Banat nationalities in tourism development”
· Organizing study tours in order to select the 22 locations and events in Banat that will become the tourist emblems of the region.
The project is carried out within the frame of Romania-Serbia Neighborhood Programme (2005) and is financed from Phare CBC funds (for the cross-border applicant) and Cards funds (for the lead applicant).
