About Romanian Banat

Banat is a region located in Central Europe, whose territory is divided between 3 countries: Romania, Serbia and Hungary.
Romanian Banat is situated in the western part of the country and displays two types of relief - mountainous in the south and south-east and flat (and sometimes marshy) in the north-west and south-west.

Population
According to the 2002 census, Romanian Banat had 1.011.145 inhabitants. The heterogeneous ethnic structure continues to be a label for this region and this fact is highlighted by the shares that various ethnic minorities hold. Thus, in 2002, Romanians accounted for 85% of the population, while Hungarians accounted for 5,6%, Germany for 2%, Serbs for 1,9% and Roma for 2,4%.
